Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster: Improvements to Zombie Paradise

It’s been eight years since the last Dead Rising game, but Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is here to show that that the series has plenty of life left! Whether you arrived at Willamette Parkview Mall back in 2006 or are taking your first steps in the zombie-ridden shopping center for the first time today, there are plenty of new and exciting experiences to enjoy in DRDR.
But this is no simple re-release – the development team has applied a careful eye to every system from the original and taken on feedback from years of fan requests to create a truly modern version of this classic game. Let’s dive into the improvements:
West’s World
If you don’t know Frank West, you definitely should. He’s covered wars, you know! This photojournalist is always looking for the next big scoop, and he enters Willamette by helicopter after receiving an anonymous tip about a potential big break. Unfortunately for him, this “big break” turns out to be a zombie outbreak, and he must survive for 72 hours so that he can get out alive!
Fans of the original game can appreciate the updated look of the characters and environments, now fully realized in Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine with visuals reaching up to 4K in 60 FPS. New elements make the mall come to life like never before, with brilliant real-time lighting, updated textures, and new details that emphasize the life that existed before the dead roamed the building.
Picture Perfect
As a photojournalist, Frank can use his camera to take pictures of his surroundings, be it zombies wearing Servbot helmets, dramatic moments between survivors, or even various bonus stickers placed all around the mall. Taking pictures can earn precious Prestige Points, which are essential to leveling up Frank and expanding his skill set for his fight against the zombies.
If you really consider yourself a shutterbug, brand new camera parts are scattered around for Frank to find and upgrade his options to get that perfect photo!
Quality of (Undead) Life Improvements
Of course, that’s not all that Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster has to offer! The game is now fully voiced in 9 languages, including English, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian, with additional text languages also available.
Other quality of life features include auto-save slots, an updated control scheme with the option to use “classic” controls, the ability to fast-forward time at save points, and even a closet to change into the many outfits you might discover!
Survive at All Costs
Perhaps the biggest improvement goes to survivor AI, making the survivors that Frank rescues more competent against the zombie horde. Give them their favorite items to use as weapons, and they’ll be even more effective.
Not only will they be better at surviving, but they’ll also be better assistance to Frank as well, offering tips and pointing out places of interest. If you want to earn a lot of Prestige Points, we highly encourage saving the survivors and getting to know them better in DRDR.
Booksmart
Fans of the original game may remember the various books that granted new passive abilities to Frank. With Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, there are even more books to discover. Experts know how vital these books can be under the right circumstances, so be sure to explore the mall and find some of the new abilities added to the game.
Rocketman
Finally, before we go, we want to mention one last explosive detail… the rocket launcher! A weapon that never made it into the original Dead Rising has now been restored, making its official debut in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. We hope you enjoy finding this new weapon and discover fun ways to put it to use!
