KT (CEO Kim Young-sup) announced on 4 June 2024 that it has signed a strategic partnership with Microsoft for close cooperation in the areas of AI, cloud, and IT, at Microsoft’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington, USA on the 3 June 2024(local time). KT CEO Kim Young-sup and Microsoft Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella, attended the signing ceremony.
Under the agreement, KT and Microsoft will collaborate on ▲ To engage in AI and Cloud R&D projects ▲ To develop AI, Cloud, and IT Services tailored to the Korean market ▲ To build an AI and Cloud Innovation Center ▲ To combine efforts to foster expertise in AI and Cloud technologies.
In particular, the two companies will detail areas of extensive cooperation and support for the innovation and growth of the domestic AI and Cloud industry. KT plans to lead the Korean market by developing ‘Sovereign cloud’ on Azure and ‘Sovereign AI’, leveraging Microsoft’s technology, to enhance security that meets the data and AI sovereignty needs of customers in the public and financial sectors .
KT has become a strategic partner of Microsoft, beyond a simple technical cooperation. KT aims to become a full-fledged ‘AICT(AI and ICT) Company’ by developing localized AI, Cloud, and IT services that to be release by KT.
“After six months of comprehensive discussions since my appointment as CEO, it is greatly meaningful to be able to reposition KT as a competitive AI innovation partner in Korea by combining KT’s extensive domestic business experience with Microsoft’s technology” said Kim Young-sup, CEO of KT. And he added “We are committed to respond swiftly to changes in the market through all-round cooperation with Microsoft and to become a milestone in Korea’s digital innovation.”
